About the Team
We are a dedicated team of students and faculty members at IIT Madras, committed to designing and developing cutting-edge assistive and rehabilitation technologies that cater to persons with disabilities and the ageing population.
In collaboration with the National Center for Assistive Health Technologies (NCAHT-IITM) and Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT Madras, our journey began with the creation of a prosthetic leg for individuals with above-the-knee amputation, a significant step towards enhancing mobility and independence.
We are proud to represent India on a global stage at the world’s biggest prosthesis challenge organised by ETH Zurich: Cybathlon 2024. Cybathlon is an international competition where teams develop and showcase advanced assistive devices in a series of challenges that simulate real-world tasks for individuals with disabilities. This event not only showcases our commitment to advancing assistive technology but also serves as an inspiration for others to contribute to this crucial field.
Together, we are paving the way for a future where technology bridges the gap, ensuring equal opportunities and an improved quality of life for all.
About the Pilot
“I really strive that someday Asai is able to make a prosthesis which is cost effective and reaches the end-user in an efficient manner. This keeps me motivated to put in my best effort everyday”, declared our pilot, Krishna Muthusamy, with determination in his eyes. Currently working as a software engineer, Krishna has been taking out time and training meticulously on our prototypes, perfecting his every move.
Krishna’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. In 2008, while standing at the side of the road with company, he met with an accident, where he not only lost his leg, but also his friend. He had just completed 12th grade, and this accident made his life take an unexpected turn. However, his unwavering motivation kept him going. After multiple years of hard work and a range of prosthetic legs, he’s finally the Lead Software Engineer at STGIT, Chennai. His consistent passion for inclusivity and making a difference drives us and keeps us motivated to optimize every aspect of our prototype. Hats off to him!
